Visiting Massachusetts? What Out-of-State Visitors Should Know About Buying Cannabis

Massachusetts is one of the states where adults can legally buy recreational cannabis, and visitors are welcome to shop just like residents. If you are in town for an event, a game, or a weekend away, here is what you need to know before stopping by reLeaf.

Who can buy

Anyone 21 or older with a valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID can purchase adult-use cannabis. An out-of-state driver license or passport is fine. You do not need to be a Massachusetts resident and you do not need a medical card for adult-use products.

How much you can buy

State law lets adults purchase up to one ounce of cannabis flower, or up to five grams of concentrate, per transaction. Our budtenders can help you stay within the limits and pick the right products for what you are looking for.

Where you can and cannot consume

  • No public consumption. It is illegal to consume cannabis in public spaces, including streets, parks, sidewalks, and stadium grounds.
  • Check where you are staying. Many hotels prohibit smoking of any kind. A private residence or a rental that allows it is the lawful place to consume.
  • Never drive under the influence. Driving while impaired is illegal and dangerous.
  • Do not cross state lines. Taking cannabis out of Massachusetts is a federal offense, even into another legal state.
